Week 11 Studio: Generative AI
This week, we will be discussing the role of generative AI in cybersecurity, and possible policy questions around it.
Your assignment is due today. Each person or pair will have approximately 5 minutes to present their idea to the class and lead a discussion around it. Your presentation should discuss all three aspects of the report (use: how it will be used, motivation: why they would want to do that, and reaction: how the other side will react) and also should convey the argument you are trying to make in your report whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. Try to convince your fellow classmates!
While you have 5 minutes to present, you do NOT need to use the whole time. I encourage you to keep your presentation short, and use some of the time for larger class discussion. Try to get people in the class to agree, disagree, or comment on your ideas! That is how ideas get better!
The assignment encourages you to include evidence in your report, including examples from current AI tools of possible ways they might be used. I encourage you to show your examples to the class; examples can convey a lot of detail and information in a very short time frame.
You are welcome to use slides (powerpoint or its equivalent) if you want to. However, I’ve found that it is often more interesting and compelling to listen to someone talk without slides, or to restrict your slides to only things like visual aids or evidence/examples. Please do not just read your slides. If you have slides, you have two options:
- Send the slides to me at least 15 minutes before class. I will connect my computer and you can use it to display your slides.
- You can connect your own computer or tablet to the projector using the room’s built-in connector. The time it takes you to do this is part of your five minutes, so if you do this, I strongly encourage you to show up to class at least 10-15 minutes early and test out your connection before class starts.
I will be in the classroom 15 minutes before class starts to help anyone with technology issues.
Anyone who works in a pair will only have one presentation slot. The presentation will still need to be only 5 minutes. It is up to you how you use the time – it is OK if only one person does the talking, or if there is a handoff in the middle, or however you want to arrange it. I will not be quite as strict on the 5 minute time limit for pairs, but still shoot for only 5 minutes.
